The Pench National Park and Tiger Reserve is located in north-western Maharashtra state in India, about 70 km from the city of Nagpur. The park is spread over an area of 758 kms square including the tiger reserve. 10% area of the park is in Maharashtra and rest 90% of area is in the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh. The park, nestling in the lower southern reaches of the Satpura hills is named after Pench river which flows from north to south through the Park.
The Pench National Park is well known for the abundance of flora and fauna in it. Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983 and in 1992, Pench was included under the umbrella of "Project Tiger" as the 19th Project Tiger Reserve. The best time to visit this park is summer as many wildlife varieties come outside their natural habitat in search of water. Waterholes in the park provide good views of the denizens of park.
